A delayed diagnosis can be extremely dangerous, especially for patients with some form of cancer. Recently, one woman took action against the people she holds responsible for her delayed diagnosis of breast cancer.

The Louisiana woman recently filed a lawsuit against a number of different people and organizations for delaying her breast cancer diagnosis for nine months. Those on the lawsuit include a community health center, two different physicians, Louisiana State University, Louisiana State University School of Public Health, the Louisiana Department of Health and even the state of Louisiana itself.

The woman was first examined in March 2010 when she found a lump in her breast. She says she was examined many different times before she was finally diagnosed in December of that year.

The cancer was treated through a partial mastectomy, but the woman believes the cancer progressed during the nine month period between her initial examination and her final diagnosis.

The woman has accused the various defendants of negligence for not properly diagnosing her or treating her in an appropriate time period. She is requesting an unspecified amount of money for pain and suffering, loss of earnings and medical expenses among other things.

A delayed diagnosis can have a huge affect on a patient's life. In some cases, it results in serious injury or even death. Although this woman survived her battle with breast cancer, it could have turned out much differently.

Those in Illinois who believe they are a victim of medical malpractice may wish to work with an experienced attorney. An attorney can help patients receive the compensation they deserve.
